Did China send its sub to give Japan a hint at its displeasure over Koizumi's visits to Yasukuni Shrine?
China linked the apparent intrusion of one of its submarine's into Japanese waters with displeasure over the island nation's honoring war criminals.
On Friday Tokyo lodged a strong protest with Beijing, claiming the submarine was Chinese, the Kyodo news agency reported. On Saturday, China's ambassador to Japan, urged a calm approach to the incident and then added the Chinese people will be hurt if (Japan) tries to justify Class-A war criminals, who were symbols of (Japanese) militarism.
Wang Yi's remark was a dig at Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi's repeated visits to the war-related Yasukuni Shrine in Tokyo, Kyodo said.
The shrine honors Japan's officially recognized war dead, along with war criminals from World War II, including wartime Prime Minister Gen. Hideki Tojo. BigNews Network.com
If true, this would raise some interesting questions. Is this limited to shrine visits or does China have a bigger picture in mind. Is it worried that Japan, with its technical savvy, could give China a run for its money as top dog in East Asia? Is China sending hints to Japan that it's 'unsheathing the samurai sword' is disrespectful to its big brother across the sea? Maybe it's all just irresponsible journalism--let's keep an eye on this. After all, the level-headed Chinese people are one thing, but it's Stalin on Mastecard political system is another.
